Tradish

What is Tradish?

A new project from Bex Bee and friends!

Tradish will the internet hub to find traditional music and dance events, all over the world. From shows to jams to festivals, Tradish will make it fast and easy to discover what you want to do. Tradish is ANTI social media – we want you to spend as little time as possible on our site, then get out into the real world! No ads, no clickbait, no doom scrolling. You don’t need a user account, and nobody is tracking your activity.

Our bottom line at Tradish is to grow and support traditional culture and communities, because we think that is inherently valuable.

How do you use Tradish?

Your plane has just landed in Seattle, WA. Is there anything fun to do? You navigate to the Tradish website and put in a query for events happening in Seattle this week. Oh golly! There’s a bluegrass jam tonight, a square dance tomorrow, and a house concert the next day with a local Irish fiddler. You want to get in a lot of dancing this week, so you decide to then filter your results for participatory dance. Just like that, you’ve now signed up for a tango class. Satisfied, you turn off your phone forever and toss it into the nearest ocean.

How will Tradish be updated?

Real community grows from the ground up, and Tradish is no exception. All content is contributed by community members that care about folk traditions. Tradish is just planting a seed in the soil – the contributions from community organizers will be the leaves! Performers and organizers who would like to share their events to the Tradish database can apply to be a contributor. They can then add their events to the master calendar, which will then become visible and searchable on the Tradish website. We plan to have options for single-night events, repeating events, and multi-day festivals.

How will Tradish make money?

We view money as a tool, not a goal. If we can make enough money to pay our team and support the website, that will be enough!

  • We plan on releasing a new batch of awesome merch each year, created by local artists. With Tradish swag such as tshirts or coffee mugs, you can help support the project!
  • We will occasionally release mix-tapes on Bandcamp, featuring participating artists.
  • Initially, the site will be free for anyone to use. Eventually, we will ask hosts of ticketed events to pay the price of one ticket in order to make a posting.
  • Donations from people who want to support the arts! We will host a kickstarter once we gain traction in a few locations.

Will Tradish host it’s own events?

Yes! We plan to host a series of big kick-off events in various cities. Featuring local artists, these events will help spread the word and raise funds for Tradish. We are in the early planning stages to host such events in Vancouver BC, Seattle, Port Townsend, Portland, and Eugene. Do you live near any of these places and want to help out? Send us a line!

Will people actually use Tradish?

We think that these reviews from our imaginary users speak for themselves.
